Iran Reports Attack on US Base in Bahrain, During Regional Retaliatory Strikes.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched strikes across the region in response for a large-scale and ongoing attack against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area in the area of the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any damage is unclear and the American officials has yet to issue a statement.
Airspace Engagements
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - all home to American military installations - reported they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their airspace.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had intercepted several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the region.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was attacking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the strikes on Iran initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That initial attack - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck areas linked to the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the people of Iran to revolt against the regime.
Regional Fallout
In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems responded to the projectiles with notable success and destroyed a series of missiles," it added.
The statement noted debris fell on a populated district in Abu Dhabi, causing some property damage and killing a civilian.
The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
