A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.
It might not have been at the identical stature as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a current administration.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people yelling “six-seven” – originating from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the festive period,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It embodies the character of Miami: happy, diverse, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Each year, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and strong coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
