‘A Man Who Will Be Deeply Missed’: The Actress Meg Ryan Posts Heartfelt Homage to Director Rob Reiner
Meg Ryan has published a heartfelt tribute to the departed director Rob Reiner, under whose direction she worked in the beloved romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally.
A Heartbreaking Event
Reiner was found dead with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their Los Angeles home over the weekend.
“Oh how we will miss this man…” the actress posted on Instagram, accompanying a photo of them together. “Thank you, Rob and Michelle [sic], for the way you believe in true love, in fairy tales, and in laughter. Your trust in people's goodness and your love for this nation are remembered.”
Legal Proceedings Unfold
Reiner’s son Nick, 32, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and made a court appearance today. He’s being incarcerated with no bail set. Reports indicate that Reiner’s daughter Romy was the one who located her father.
“I must hold onto hope that their tale doesn't conclude here, that awareness can be heightened from this,” Ryan went on to write. “Perhaps they would desire a legacy of hope and humanity, leading us toward empathy and tranquility.”
Children Share Their Grief
Reiner’s surviving children Jake and Romy issued words today. “No words can convey the constant, profound sorrow we feel,” they said. “The tragic, shattering loss of our parents is an experience no one should have to face. Beyond being our mom and dad, they were our dearest friends.”
Hollywood Tributes Pour In
Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, joined in remembering Reiner with a statement shared yesterday together with remarks by Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.
“His skill for comedy was unmatched, his ear for dialogue perfect, and his dramatic precision was sheer elegance,” the tribute noted. “He adored his actors. He elevated his writers. His greatest gift was freedom. If you had an idea, he listened, he brought you into the process. Collaborators felt like a unified team. Being guided by him was an honor, yet just one facet of his impact.”
A Lasting Cinematic Legacy
When Harry Met Sally was a critical and commercial success in 1989, earning over $93 million globally and securing Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.
Rob Reiner met Michele Singer Reiner during the production of When Harry Met Sally. The pair were introduced by Barry Sonnenfeld, a director and friend.
Reiner’s notable filmography also included classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were married for 36 years.
